That Tamron is a good suggestion that I keep forgetting about. My dream replacement for the kit lens would be the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM, but that might be a little crazy. I've also considering the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L, which was recommended by Joeycat as her walking-around lens, although it's kind of wide...I'd want to get something a little longer to go with it, and at that point, I've now spent as much as the 24-105mm :)

I pretty much agree with your assessments on all of the same, or similar gear that we own. I'm sure you've heard me talk about it before, but it sounds like the Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 would round out your collection nicely. It's affordable, covers a decent range, and I probably have it on my camera 80% of the time. Since I got it, I haven't touched my 50mm 1.8.

I got frustrated by the weight of my camera bag, and now usually have the 28-75 on my camera, with the 10-22 in the bag when I need it. The kit lens and 50mm have been donated to a friend, and I only bring the (agreeably crappy) 75-300mm when I NEED the long zoom, and know I'll have plenty of light.

Toni’s last blog post..Ouch
