Fine. Run away.

by Matt Stratton on November 3, 2004

In all seriousness…what’s with this whole “I am gonna leave the country” crap.

Cowards. All of you.

First of all – you concede so easily? I thought liberals were supposed to be the ones willing to fight for civil rights and all that. Or you just want it when it’s handed to you? Pussies.

Secondly – if you’re predicting the gloom and doom and global apocolypse that four more years of GWB and GOP will bring…do you honestly think that there’s a corner of this Earth where you’d be safe? Ask your friends living in other countries – they were all watching this election as warily as you were. Because yes, it AFFECTED THE ENTIRE PLANET. So running off to Amsterdam so you can get high legally isn’t going to save you from Georgie Boy’s WWIII.

Get some perspective. Get some balls. And punch every 18-29 year old you see who didn’t vote.

Re: running away – unless the Republic of NorthEasternLand starts up in the next few weeks, I’m totally with you. Now, more than ever, the voice of dissent needs to be heard. Especially when someone like my boss, a liberal who voted for Bush, says that “the election’s over – I’m a team player – America is my team.”

Re: concession – well, I’m totally all for counting every single vote – because every vote counts. But, honestly, the math does not seem to support a Kerry victory.

Re: apocalypse – I feel, deep down in my heart, that a Bush victory = another terrorist attack. I do think they’ll attack again. If they hit NYC, hard, well, at least I’ll die quickly.

I agree as well. I think they will attack again. But I think NYC is safe, as well as Chicago. We’re blue states. Bin Laden promised we were safe. And we can trust him, right?

I mean, the rest of the country is trusting a power-mad religious zealot. Why can’t we?

i love you, mugs. if i wasn’t so depressed that would have made me laugh. in a cynical, depressed way, but laugh nonetheless.

Re: Moving away. There’s some logic to it. This country, purely as a place to live, is going down the tubes, and now it has a whole lot more lubricant so it’s going to start accelerating down that path. There’s something to be said for being in a place that’s NICE TO LIVE IN.

But yes, this fucking country affects the whole fucking world. So the whole world is probably screwed.

Re: Apocalypse. Um. Let’s see. Two Bush-appointed Supreme Court Justices. Accelerated poverty. Loss of social programs. More wars. Healthcare continues to skyrocket. Massive rollbacks of environmental legislation. A draft? An overturn of Roe vs. Wade? No accountability since Bush doesn’t have to worry about getting re-elected, and if we impeach him, we get fucking Cheney for a president? And a never ending stream of lies, lies, lies. And yes, I think we’ll get it so hard in the groin by the terrorists that shit is going to get REAL fucked up. We are SO vulnerable you wouldn’t believe it. And the world is definitely going to get more pissed off.

I’m also quite frankly worried about domestic turmoil. Too many people in this country have guns at home for me to be comfortable right now. Bush (and his sociopathic administration) could seriously push this country to the breaking point. Or else he’ll push us into a war with a country who has the resources to take it to our doorstep.

When the shit hits the fan, Canada won’t be far enough away. That much I know.

    for real…can you believe that the “young” voter turn-out was exactly the same as in 2000?!? in 2000, i WAS a “young” voter…now i guess i’m just a “regular” voter…but shocking…it was…

re:And punch every 18-29 year old you see who didn’t vote.

I think a part of why many of them stil didn’t vote is that many of them are students away at college. And of course many of them didn’t request an absentee ballot far enough in advance. Who knows how far in advance you need them, anyways? C told me that in the last two elections, he got his absentee ballot form Colorado Months after the election. How much help is that? I’d love to find out how many kids are still waiting around for their ballot to arrive.

You can run away to Alaska where pot is now legal.

    People are stupid.

personally, i would leave the country because there’s no way funding for the arts is gonna get any better with w in office.

teresa heinz-kerry is a huge proponent. maybe her influence would have kept some companies afloat. but with bush, i can’t imagine being able to live off singing for four more years.

that’s why i’m seriously thinking about going back to germany and auditioning for houses, and seeing if i can’t get something lined up for future years. and if i do move, i would for sure want to help the americans overseas get even more involved for 2008.

  • starrynytes4me

Are you really going to help P. Diddy kill the youth who didn’t vote?

p.s. I’m old and I did vote for Kerry.
